The conservative physician will so advise his patients and await the results of a competently conducted controlled study.

This perception, held most strongly by the middle class-- polio s principal target--shaped a unique Canadian response to it based on comprehensive, standardized, and unconditional programs of state medicine at the provincial level. Of Canada s four major waves of provincial polio epidemics, the second struck Ontario to an unprecedented degree in 1937, generating a similarly unprecedented response from the Ontario government in its control, treatment, hospitalization, and aftercare measures. As this article discusses, the severity of this epidemic led the provincial, and other Canadian public health authorities, to face a central question: How far should governments be compelled to go to ensure the advantages of modern treatment for their people? This article helps place the social impact of, and political and scientific response to, epidemic polio within the context of Canada s evolving public health and state medicine infrastructure at the time.ViewShow abstractPoliomyelitis: Problems in pathogenesis and immunizationArticleJan 2000Yale J Biol MedD M HorstmannViewThe Epidemiology and Pathogenesis of PoliomyelitisArticleJan 1954Bull New York Acad MedDorothy M. The methods used by him to find remedies against different ailments rested to a great extent on Psychical effects and certain simple procedures like blood letting and cupping. However, attempts were also made to obtain efficient cure by drugs mainly by the vegetable and to some degree from animal and mineral kingdoms. Thus, on the basis of the ... \"DialaDiala SteitiehNivee AminWe report a case of variant (Prinzmetal’s) angina pectoris in a 51-year-old man in whom coronary angiography revealed sluggish flow of contrast material. His chest pain was not controlled with standard antianginal therapy, but it resolved after discontinuation of mouthwash. This is the first case of angina pectoris reported that vastly improved after discontinuation of mouthwash. \"DanielDaniel HowesLateral canthotomy and cantholysis is a simple procedure that can be performed by emergency physicians. It has the potential to save vision, particularly in cases of blunt ocular trauma. The case of a 37-year-old man with blunt ocular trauma, a retrobulbar hemorrhage and rapidly increasing orbital pressure requiring an urgent lateral canthotomy and cantholysis is presented. The little-known posterior interosseous nerve travels in close proximity to the radial head and is particularly susceptible to injury. The objectives of this case report include raising awareness of the possibility of posterior interosseous ... [Show full abstract] nerve palsy after radial head fracture and reviewing the clinical assessment of the posterior interosseous nerve to exclude occult injury. Here we report a case of a 21-year-old man who developed a posterior interosseous nerve palsy after a fracture of the radial head sustained during a wrestling match. He also sustained frostbite to the extremity due to overaggressive icing of the injury.Physicians should screen patients with radial head fractures for associated nerve injury. A thorough neurovascular examination with attention to the motor innervation patterns in the hand and wrist will help identify posterior interosseous nerve involvement. Careful discharge instructions will help prevent iatrogenic frostbite from overaggressive icing of injuries. Read moreArticle[Physiologic basis for prevention of early aging in man]September 1993 · Fiziologiia ChelovekaM I KrikshtopaĭtisRead moreArticleVitruvian man: metaphor of a compleat physician.February 1997 · The Pharos of Alpha Omega Alpha-Honor Medical Society. YadavThe conductance of NaNO3 has been measured between 9·0 and 1·0 mmol/litre in dioxan- water mixtures covering 78·54 D 12· 45 at 25°C. The data were analysed with Fuoss-Onsager and Skinner (1965) equations on an IBM 7044 computer to get Λ0, KA and α0(L). Λ0η shows dependence on the solvent composition. The ion-size parameter a0(L) increases with decrease in dielectric constant up to D = 36.05 ... [Show full abstract] and decreases thereafter. Log KAvs 1/D yields a straight line giving a value of a0(K) = 8.63. Read moreDiscover the world s researchJoin ResearchGate to find the people and research you need to help your work.Join for free
